2021 is not over but already more Americans have died from Covid-19 in 2021 than in all of 2020.
The death toll for 2021 is nearly 386,000. That’s a few hundred more than the 2020 death toll. Put together, more than 771,000 Americans have died from the virus in less than two years.
When it comes to the most recent deaths, infectious disease experts blame the highly-contagious delta variant of COVID-19 and low vaccination rates in some communities.
Overall, nearly 70% of Americans have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
