Leading the Pack

I saw this photo posted online and although it was about wolves, it seems to have implications about human leaders too.

You might think that the 3 wolves in front (red) would be the leaders, but they are the older or sick ones who set a pace so that they are not left behind.

The second group (yellow) are the strongest who need to protect the front if there is an attack.

The main group in the middle of the are always protected from attack from the front, and also from the (green) group behind them who are also among the strongest.

The last one (blue) is the "leader" who ensures that no one is left behind and can see the entire pack and be ready to run in any direction to protect them.

Maybe being a leader isn't so much about being out front, but about taking care of the pack or team.
